Dear Mrs. Boutilier
My Capstone project interest is to make a difference in the school experience of a middle school student by providing social/emotional support, Guidance, and academic torturing. I plan on meeting with my mentee everyday during advisory, lunch, and class time. I contacted Mrs. Bertero to help me with the Protocols that I need to follow to mentor a student at SMSA middle school. I feel that if I had had a mentor when I was in middle school my high school experience would have been more successful. I want to help someone understand the daily challenges of being a highschool student.
What are the qualities of a good mentor toutership? There are certain qualities that make a good mentor. These qualities should help the mentee grow as an individual and a student. Being a good listener can help somebody express feelings they don't say to other people. Being flexible is also a good quality because the mentor is there for the student. Being able to construct honest feedback is great for a kid that thinks they can slide by the earlier years of middle school. Mentoring guarantees young people that there is someone there that cares for them. Kids with mentors are 78% more likely to participate in volunteering regularly. Mentees would want to take the leadership role growing more times than kids who didn't have a mentor.
My mentor is Mr. Wosleger, his contact is [email protected] and he qualifies to be a mentor because he is behavioral tech here at SMSA and has a good idea with kids grades 6 through 12. Mr. W has known me through most of the years I have been here and has been a great teacher to me during my school experience. Mr. W can help me in this stretch being that he talks to kids everyday and was a pass ISS teacher. My learning stretch will be seeing through a kid's life and struggles during their middle school process. This pushes me by helping a kid out and being in the big brother role.
